Instructor Highlight – Gwen McLaughlin

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Gwen takes time away to visit different places and try new things.  She is teaching again here at Sunrise Yoga and we are very happy to have her back! Gwen started practicing yoga at home. It wasn’t long before she realized that this form of movement would be a part of her life on a daily basis. With its ability to engage the mind as well as the body, she feels yoga creates a balance which is calming and regenerative. At Sunrise Yoga Studio, she found she was able to practice yoga to a more fulfilling degree. Gwen wanted to become a teacher to deepen her knowledge and to be able to share the joy and insight yoga brings. She believes that practicing yoga allows a person to be fully present in the moment, something to which we can all aspire. She has graduated from the Sunrise Yoga Teacher Training program as a 500-hour Certified Yoga Teacher.  Gwen is currently teaching Level 1 on Wednesday mornings from 10-11:30 am; All Levels on Wednesdays at 4-5:30 pm and Level 1 on Thursdays at 6-7:30 pm. She is teaching Saturdays, Level 2 Flow and Back Care for the month of January.  Gwen also enjoys practicing and teaching Guided Meditation classes at Sunrise so look for these classes with her next year too! 2016 Yogathon at Sunrise Yoga

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Yogathon Proceeds from Sunrise Yoga Studio are Presented to the American Red Cross

After the terrible flooding that occurred in North Carolina in October, the instructors and students of Sunrise Yoga wanted to do
something to help. On Friday, October 28th, Sunrise Yoga Studio in Clemmons held a Yogathon to raise money for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund for NC.   The Yogathon was one continuous class that went from 5:30-7:30 p.m.  Instructors took turns leading the class and participants could come in and out as schedules allowed.  Thanks to the generosity of those who participated and from those who couldn’t attend but also made donations, we raised $2500!   In the picture, studio owner Valerie Kiser (on left) and instructor Cathy Howe (on right) present the check to Charles Gwinn, Chapter Chair for Winston-Salem, NC Piedmont Triad American Red Cross.   We were happy to be able to help our NC community this way and always look for ways to support the community!

What Fills Your Heart?

Living Lighthearted and Carefree!

spencer-oct-2016Sometimes, the bumps in the road can be quite challenging and leave us feeling defeated.  It can be hard to laugh and smile when life is happening around us.  Surrounding yourself with people who love, support and encourage you is a wonderful thing to do for yourself.  Letting go helps us to enjoy life, have a little fun and be playful!  May your spirits be lifted and the light radiate within you.  You will notice it and so will those around you!

Our skeleton, Spencer, has come out and is ready for Halloween here at Sunrise Yoga and wishes you a playful and spoooooooooooooky trick or treating kind of holiday this year!

5 Helpful Tips on the Do’s of Yoga!


5 TIPS to help you and your fellow Yogis enjoy the beauty of Yoga inside and out!

  1. DO:  Be kind and accepting of yourself and others.  BE WHERE YOU ARE!
  2. DO:  Arrive a few minutes early to begin quiet centering time for yourself, which can help you let go of your day and allow you to focus on the present moment.
  3. DO:  Avoid applying lotions, perfumes and scents prior to a Yoga class as there are many people who have extreme sensitivities to scents.
  4. DO:  Dress comfortably and wear appropriate clothing.
  5. DO:  Yoga on an empty stomach and give yourself a couple hours after eating before attending class.

Gratitude can be challenging for many people in the world today.  Life’s troubles can be overwhelming and it is easy to get lost in the thought that life is only full of difficulties.  Part of feeling gratitude may flow more easily when we give ourselves permission to acknowledge and feel our honest and real feelings with ourselves and others who are supportive and loving.  Forcing gratitude is not being truthful about where we are in the moment.  We honor ourselves by feeling our feelings and that is when gratitude becomes possible.  Living in gratitude and joy is a part of life if we allow it to be.
