Sunrise Yoga Studio is proud to introduce an In Depth Studies 200 Hour Teacher Certification Program for 2009-2010 taught by
Valerie Kiser and other guest instructors.
The Teacher Certification Program is a 200-hour course, meeting one weekend a month for 12 months.
the program begins March 13, 2009.
The 200 Hour Teacher Training Program at Sunrise Yoga has the following Curriculum:
- Techniques of asana, pranayama, meditation, and other traditional yoga techniques. The yoga poses
will be taught in an alignment-based format. Other schools of hatha yoga will also be introduced.
- Teaching methodology: principles of demonstration, observing, assisting, modifications, instruction, conducting a class, sequencing, qualities of a teacher, business aspects of teaching
- Anatomy & physiology: human body and energetic body
- Yoga philosophy, lifestyle, ethics, Sanskrit, Ayurveda
- Practice teaching, assisting, observing, giving & receiving feedback, ethics
The goal of this program is to help you learn to teach safe and effective Yoga classes. You will also learn to deepen your
own practice leading to a healthier body, a clearer mind, and a greater sense of peace and joy in your life.
To become an effective teacher, we must first experience being the student. The Sunrise Yoga Teacher Certification Program
is designed for yoga students with a minimum of two years of continuous study who are now ready to deepen their own
practice while learning to teach.
Contact hours:
- Techniques = 95
- Teaching methodology = 30
- Anatomy & Physiology = 20
- Philosophy, lifestyle, ethics = 20
- Practicum = 15
Non-contact hours:
At least 20 hours include reading books from the required reading list, answering homework questions, creating lesson plans, home practice & journaling of it, attendance to classes, observing/assisting classes, and unobserving teaching.
Upon successful completion of the 200-hour program, you will be eligible to register with the
Yoga Alliance as a RYT200.
Students wishing to deepen their own practice without having the desire to teach are also welcome to participate in this
program. You would not be required to practice teach or complete the homework assignments. You would receive a
certificate of completion rather than a certificate for teaching.

Students accepted into the program are expected to attend all sessions.

Times:
- Friday ~ 6 PM – 9 PM
- Saturday ~ 9 AM – Noon and 1 PM – 4 PM
- Sunday ~ 9 AM – Noon and 1 PM – 4 PM
- * November session will meet at the following times:
- Friday ~ 6 PM – 8 PM
- Saturday ~ 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM and 3 PM – 5 PM
- Sunday ~ 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM and 2 PM – 7 PM
- The Friday night, all day Saturday, and Sunday morning sessions will be taught by Cindy Dollar, ERYT 500,
Iyengar-certified teacher. Valerie will teach the Sunday afternoon one.
Cost:
- The total cost of the program is $2,000.
- We accept cash, checks, MasterCard, Visa, and Discover.
- The cost of books is not included. If you pay full price for the required books, the cost is approximately $200.
- The weekend with Cindy Dollar is included in the cost.
- $150 deposit due with application. If you are accepted into the program, the $150 application fee will be applied toward the total cost of the program.
If you are not accepted into the program, $125 will be returned to you.
- If you are accepted, the balance of the program is $1850.
- There are options for payments:
- Amount due by February 27 (2 weeks prior to the first weekend of training) = $600. Due on a monthly basis for the following 5 months (April – August) = $250. This is due by the 15th of the month each month beginning in April.
- A discount of $100 will be offered if payment in full is received before February 27 (2 weeks prior to the first weekend). Total due at that time = $1750.
- Talk to Valerie for alternate plans.
Homework:
There is a required reading list and reasonable homework will be assigned between each weekend session. We understand that
you have a job, family, and life outside this program.
Applicaton:
Your application will be reviewed within 2 weeks of receipt and you will be notified via email of our decision of
acceptance. You will receive detailed information about the first weekend and the list of books which are required reading
at that time.
